Relatively new drugs now help some patients, but not others, with the most common form of multiple sclerosis. That may be because patients with the same symptoms experience different types of inflammation, suggests a new study in animals from the University of Michigan. That’s when the body attacks itself for some unknown reason. MS damages the lining of nerve cells, which in turn disrupts communication between the brain and other parts of the body. Symptoms of MS ranges from mild to complete life disruption. Specifically, they include visual problems, thinking and memory problems, muscle weakness, trouble with coordination and balance, and sensations like numbness, or “pins and needles.” Although there is no known cure for MS, medication helps control symptoms for some people.
