Added: October 8, 2007 | Time 01:51 | Views: 1,618

February is AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month and icyou is bringing you videos from its community to highlight this effort. This video from AARP shows why comprehensive screening is needed to keep your eyes 20/20.

A survey by the American Academy of Ophthalmology shows that few Americans see themselves at risk for eye diseases.
To educate the public and help prevent eye disease the Academy is now recommending eye screening starting at age 40.
This video is from AARP.

I've had bad eyesight since I was 6 years old so I've been going every year since then, but I always thought if your eyesight was fine, then you didn't need to go. Good to know.

Most people don't remember to get their eyes screened until they have problems. This needs to be better publicized.

Problem is most places don't have eye insurance. Exams ususually cost $100 and then you have to pay for contacts or glasses. Figure on spending at least $250 a year.

I treat eye exams like a game. I find myself competing on the tests against those people that have been there before me.

This is another one of those issues where some people just cant afford to go to an eye doctor. It's just a shame.
