Maintaining Proper Foot Care

Added: August 6, 2008 | Time 00:59 | Views: 246

Some would argue that they are the two most neglected parts of our body — our feet. Not only do we forget to give them the daily care we give to…say…our skin and teeth…we often stuff them in ill-fitting shoes or don’t trim our toenails. When they call out for help by becoming dry, swollen or calloused, we treat them as nuisances that limit our ability to get around. The point is that feet need to be soothed, protected and cared for just like any other part of the body. Medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and diseases of the blood vessels can make foot wear and tear worse. Wear proper-fitting shoes, check your feet regularly and keep them moving. Fungus thrives in warm, moist areas, so if you get a fungus infection, treat it immediately. For maintaining the proper foot by using the following tips.
* The size of your feet changes as you grow older so always have your feet measured before buying shoes.
* The best time to measure your feet is at the end of the day when your feet are largest.
* Most of us have one foot that is larger than the other, so fit your shoe to your larger foot.
* Do not select shoes by the size marked inside the shoe but by how the shoe fits your foot.
* Select a shoe that is shaped like your foot.
* During the fitting process, make sure there is enough space (3/8" to 1/2") for your longest toe at the end of each shoe when you are standing up.
* Make sure the ball of your foot fits comfortably into the widest part of the shoe.
* Do not buy shoes that feel too tight and expect them to stretch to fit.
