Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gum and bone attachment of the teeth. It results in "pockets" and "bone loss" and is the primary cause of tooth loss in adults. When pockets form the roots of teeth typically become laden with calcified deposits and this needs to be cleaned. Instead of surgery we can now endoscopically clean and treat the disease non-surgically.
